We all have an idea of the first home computer or mp3 player or digital calculator but what was the first production mountain bike ?

During the 80s i was starting to drive and frequent discos so wasnt into bikes. I had an Exchange and Mart advertised Tencor 10 speed racer

Tricky as there's no definitive answer as it was a mix of individuals and groups that contributed and not one single product but many similar bikes that ended up as the blueprints

Joe Breeze had a small production run around 1977 too, his and Tom Ritchey's designs were later copied by other builders and manufacturers like Specialized.

Mert Lawwill had his production bike available in 1977 but its too much to ask what was the 'first' first as there were conversions of existing frames, one-offs and so on going back as long as the bicycle existed.

Heres the man himself replying to the thread 'show us your Breezers'!
