What is this for? M952 content

Noticed this weird thing on the front of my RH M952 XTR shifter just now. Looks like it's for a cable, but can't figure out why it's there. Any ideas?

if you have the optional bar end shifter that's where the cable to actuate the shifter stops.

Is it something to do with the flight deck computer thingy you can get? :|

nope, flightdeck plugs in on top after you have removed the gear indicator windows. if you look on the actual thumb lever there is a little round plug that can be removed thats where the bar end shifter cable plugs in, the bit in the centre of the pic is where it's outer cable stops.

used to have one.
