What headset for 1996 Kona Lava Dome....?

After some advice here please peeps, I ventured out on sunday morning and blathered my bike very nicely, nicely enough to force even more crap and grit into my already poorly headset (crown cone is pitted and rusty, not to mention the bearing races themselves are rotted and the bearings dont stay in it properly during installation unless blathered in grease) now this is my winter bike so I havent worried too much and have been re-greasing the remnants of the headset after most rides..!

This is becoming a bind now and I have just given the bike a check over and lube ready for tomorrow night, and it feels like my steering is running on sand now so i really have to sort it!

Then it hit me, I have no idea what to get, as obviously stack height is going to be an issue (original kona impact threaded headset) as it has a single top cone/washer/nut, you spin it on then clamp the top with a 3mm allen bolt.
So I'm stuck, can anyone tell me what I need to measure, or even better reccomend a good replacement that will fit properly, and doesnt involve changing the forks and converting it to aheadset please?

Thank you in advance, John.

Re:

Undo headset, take fork out, measure legth of the steerer from under the crown race to the top.

Measure headtube length.

Take headtube length off steerer tube length and that is what you need. Give or take a mm.

Or I can measure it with verniers probably tommorow on the bike

Yeah we will try that option Ben, as i really cba to strip it at the mo, hence having not stripped it to change the grit for grease lol!

Re:

Is the top part fine, I think the early '92 ish one where low at ~32mm maybe a touch bigger.

If the top is fine, best bet is to just replace the lower half with something.

Err I think the top bit is alright yes, the crown race is buggered and probably the lower cup, but i wouldnt know what size of 'something' to replace it with lol!

Err, cups are black and the locking top ring is silver, why, do you have one in your hoard lol!

Re:

May have an 1 1/8" Impact, incomplete as i managed to lose the seals, will check if youre interested. Yours for postage if I find them.
