I don't suppose anyone has weighed a set of 531 forks and steel forks ?

I have looked in the weight weenie section but nothing.

Thinking of replacing the forks on my Raleigh Clubman.

interesting one. i take it you mean 531 against cheaper cromoly steal.
ive got a new quality italian steel one...i ll be back in a tick.
710 grammes chromed[steel forks rule !] not 531 but will be interesting to see what other readers come
up with, 753 fork weight ?

Re:

I've got 2 pairs of 531 forks in the shed at the moment, both vintage...

1. 1950's BSA, plain? 531, chromed with 180mm steerer and lamp boss, with a crown race fitted - 797grammes

2. 1970's Holdsworth, 531 butted stickers, 210mm steerer and lamp boss, no crown race fitted - 802grammes

For comparison I've also got some gas pipe forks, 1960's Raleigh with 180mm steerer and lamp boss - 875grammes

All of them also have mudguard eyes on the dropouts.

them digital scales on e bay are dirt cheap and so are the luggage weighers.lets not leave it at that chaps.
has any one got 653 and 753 ones kicking about. 100g id say is no big deal at all ! ive got some aero forks on my
taiwan 531 carrera. im changing the head set soon so i can whip them off tomorrow be interesting what they weigh as i suspect them to be cromoly.realising of course small savings on head sets and bb ts seat posts do all add up.

1. 1948? Leach Marathon, 531 butted forks sticker, inc crown race, lamp boss, 200mm steerer = 820g

2. 1992 Longstaff, 531 Designer Select, no crown race, canti studs and brazed on bottle dyno bracket, 170mm steerer = 770g

Taking into account the +/- on the steerer lengths, it's interesting how close together the weights are!

That's what i was thinking, pitty i thought i could shave half a kg with some new forks :)

Re:

I have Mizuno carbon forks on my Rourke, they made the original steel forks feel like a ships anchor by comparison.

Steel forks off a 1988 Raleigh Ritmo, 195mm steerer, no bosses, paint or races - approx 840g on my old postal scales.

I though they were really heavy too, clearly not enough to worry about.
