Retro Newbie
Has anybody out there got a free hub body for my 'old' m737 shimano xt rear hub. I am trying to rebuild my cannondale killer v to its original (as near as possible) condition. Just so ya know i use it every day to ride to work in all weathers, just never found another bike to replace it. Any help would be appreciated.

hi , welcome to the site

the shimano ones are the same fitment throught the range and to be honest i can't remember the last time i seen a m737 freehub

even if you just used it as a stop-gap until you find the xt one ?

Shimano deore xt FH-M737 freehub body

Hi,
Just to clarify, the above ebay link says it's for 7 speed block?

Reason I ask, without thread-hijacking is that my wife's Kona Kilauea freehub body [M737 Parallax hub] has just given up too, after 13 years of daily service; the bike was/is 8 speed from new, so an 8 speed fh body is what we're looking for.

Can anyone advise stockists or help please?

regards,

iirc it'll be cheaper to buy a new hub or get a second hand hub.

Looked for something similar to replace my m900 one (there's not much difference and both use the same alu ring on it as m737)
You can come across problem with not quite fitting due to some shim placement thing.

You may be able to buy a cheaper period hub, LX maybe and pinch it off that.

EDIT
M737 freehub, £27
given you'll want new bearings as well and could pick up the hub for less than that.

"FluffyChicken" - are we saying that hub bearings are trashed on the drive side; hub rebuilt by Paul Hewitt a couple of years ago and was mint after that - i thought it would be the pawls etc in the body and the hub would be OK, or have I misunderstood please?

Thanks for your advice.

Misunderstood probably the freehub is probably trashed or needs a good soak or is just loose I have no idea.
The bearings may well be fine, but since you have the axle out may as well put some nice new ones in if you see any pitting on them. I figured after 10 years there may be .

Though since you've had a rebuild and the original poster robbo seems to have used it a lot, its just general advice.

There is a bearing race on the freehub body so no point putting poor bearing in there to damage it quickly.
While apart check the bearing races for damage and then see if it better just to get a new rear hub, before you order things.

Unless you are really wanting to keep the rim and period correctness on this bike etc you may be better just getting an M770 XT hub built up to a mavic xm317/717 with DB spokes at CRC for about £70/£75

Of course for I'm talking to two people at once here with possibly different aims for the bike. First one wants period correctness and time to rebuild or replace wheel may well not be a problem.

Still just look out for hubs to come up may be cheaper ;)

Many thanks for the guidance. I'm not wedded to period exactness; pragmatism seems best but I don't deviate too far. Whenever anything has just 'worn out', what I've done is period upgrade where possible - for example the XT crankset changed for the Sugino Mighty 900 from the Kona Hot from that year.
Might need to be thinking along those lines again....these are now only the original winter wheels; she's using TNT's with Mavic sunsets for the summer.
Thanks for the pointers....much appreciated.

On mine its the bearing face on the freehub that has gone, the bearings & cones are fine. Just my luck its the only bit ya cannot get any more! The annoying part is it is the original freehub, 16 years old and was going strong. Might have to be a new hope hub instead. cheers guys!

yes used them, got the freehub but needed a cone as well and could not get one so sent freehub back and got the hope hub instead. wow ! that is much better if a little louder on free wheel, all is good so job sorted.
