W: Info on Unlisted Peugeot MTB/VTT Fully built ~82-90

Retro Newbie
hello, this is fritz. i am new here.

i just finished overhaul & completion of a peugeot mountain bike,
for which i love to get some more infos than the donating friends
"she was well over 1000 deutschmark back then"

here are some shots i took pre and post repair.
https://picasaweb.google.com/scrapheape ... tMTBFully#
caption text in english was added where necessary,

by now, i browsed the articles and esp images on catalog sites as
peugeotshow.com, velobase, cyclespeugeot, mtbforum.de etc,
but she is not listed.

"inspector peugeot" also doesnt have her in the catalog scans,
but acc her head and frame badges, she was built 1982-1990
http://cyclespeugeot.com/ModelID.html

one poster mentions, that peugeot mtb are relabelled
canadian "grisley" bikes - but www.grisley-bikes.com is dead

my questions to the assembled retro bike society are:
- does anyone know this peugeot labelled mtb ?
- is she listed in any catalogue with a picture or description ?
- if not peugeot: who might be the original maker ?
- who else saved one from the scrappers ?

finally, my thanks to the operators of this forum and all contributors
of technical-historical information and images. its a great help for all,
who keep old vehicles alive and revive.

thanks for your attention.

I don't really like to be the bearer of bad tidings but it doesn't look like any Peugeot from 82-90. It looks like a fairly generic motorstore full suspension bike that someone has put Peugeot stickers on. I would also say it's probably 2005 or later and not retro at all.

Carl.

I beleive it might be a genuine Peugeot as company made some infamous cheap full susers around Y2K era with similar generic design. I can't be 100% sure as don't have any catalog scan with this particular bike. Said this, doesn't change much as it is rather low end full suspension bike.
Here is an attachment of more sophisticated aluminium version frame from 1999. Your might be a Origin model but it's just a guess.

> "she was well over 1000 deutschmark back then"

thanks for both your comments and the image of a similar shaped bike - if not made by peugeot france then its at least branded so.

today i went again to the donor and owner of the above bicycle,
asking the same questions on date of purchase, model, price etc.

- the bike was roughly 1500 deutschmark some 20 years ago.
- the dealer reduced the price because it was too high back then
- the bike was sold by a known local peugeot appointed dealer
- the 1st owner was known for buying trendy, $$$ stuff to show off
- the bike never switched owners nor was it relabelled peugeot

these are 1st hand infos and facts, but still not the full truth.
to find out the truth about "peugeot or not, when and what model etc"
i think ill have to ask the makers in france - presenting the facts i got

thanks for your efforts anyhow. ill keep you posted

Well, judging by SR forks supplied with Peugeots and reasonable decent parts from same era makes me think it is what decals says not todays bike shaped object but this bike would cost 100-200 DM max back then as even low end Peugeots weren't that cheap and previous owner simply lie. Sorry if we disappointed you but better to know true.
