vintage tubeless: do you know anything about these?

looks like road style "tubs". i had a mate with wolber rims around 1990, probably from back then in that experimental stage of mountain bikings puberty! first time i ever saw them though

just noticed after last post you said 1991, sorry wasn't paying attention! only 1 year out as a guess though!

tubless

michelin tyres wolber rim 1995 what a flop imagine lookin for them these day
only know coz i nearly bought some

Mavic definately did a similar thing at the time, I saw some NOS rims available on the web recently but I think the lack of tyres may be a problem today!

I'm pretty sure Campag did a similar thing at the time too. I suppose they failed due to the perceived lack of repairablity and the fact that they cost a fortune at the time and the tyres didn't come in pretty colours (fairly important in the early nineties!

I also wonder whether the lack of sideways rigidity didn't help, can't imagine that a glue on, large volume tyre would really handle the effects of a few sharp corners off road in the same way as a modern wire on tubless would. I know that road tubs are nice and secure but then they are tiny in volume and have a very low profile so I imagine the sideways forces are much lower on them

quite a few people used them at the time .

there was a foam cartridge sold with them in case of puncture .

from what I can remember they were ok .
