Vintage TT build Percy Bilton team bike

Picked this up off a fellow collector this week. Planning to ride a few club 10s and found myself without a bike and spotted this on the TT forum on offer from a chap living quite near me. Apparently it was built in 89 , possibly for Paul Curran but that isn't absolutely confirmed.

Its pretty light and should build up well. Will post more pics as it comes together.

I would love to find out more myself. The pictures don't really show the build quality which is very fine. I dont know what "service de course" denotes as a tubeset but I would guess its 753 judging by the lack of weight.

Re:

That looks great! :xmas-cool:

Looking forward to seeing more of it as it builds up

Maybe M.S. Steel built these which could have been Dave Yates of Geoff at the time low pros were being built so has quality behind it.

Re: decision time

Need to make up my mind on back wheel and gears. Might go for a disc Roval star looks too fussy. Araya Aero 1 rim looks a lot less aero these days

Re:

Great, looking forward to seeing this take shape. PB was my favourite UK team in the late 80's when I was a spotty kid.

I remember finding a team shirt with Mark Walsham's name stitched into it in our local charity shop and from then on was a fan  I actually wrote to the sponser (can't remember what about) and they sent me some signed posters of the current team. Then at the final stage of the milk race in Chester town centre c?88/89/90,(think Millar won that year) I got the whole team to sign a copy of cycling weekly for me. I think my mums got it all in a trunk somewhere.

Amazing, seeing this frame just brought all that back which I'd completely forgotten. Makes me cringe a bit now but I guess it's better than playing tour of duty whilst updating facebook and listening to justin beilber or whatever preteens are into now.

Re the build, go with the disc, if you're going to build a bike which is completely impractical for daily use you might as well go the whole hog

Yeah Disc looks good.

The mechanic for the "Percy Bilton / Condor" team was the mechanic at Poyners Cycles Wolverhampton.
He was the personal mechanic to Phil Bayton and he road for the Halesowen ACC. He and Phil used to ride the madison event every year together at Aldersley Stadium W/ton.

Now I've wrote all that and I've gone and forgot what his name was!!!!
