Vintage bike advice/help please.

I could live without (or with) the gold, overlook the coathanger straddle wire on the front brake, one missing chainwheel bolt? but apart from that, that Mercier looks to be super-nice in a 'Campag-free zone' kind of way. Can't see a decal, but looks like it should be 531db or Super-Vitus. Worth checking. I already have a bike..

Blimey - I must be super fussy. It looks well old and tatty to me.

Ah well... you can lead a horse to water...
In France, say, 1975, that was state of the art. Component-wise, pretty much indistinguishable from the bike ridden by the fella that (finally) beat Eddy Merckx in the Tour de France that year. Some of the stuff on that bike is arguably functionally superior to Campag. NR/SR, even if it's not quite as beautiful. The bike has a few cosmetic cable issues- apart from that it looks like a forty-year-old bike should look, IMO. Must admit I'm not sure about the price.

You are hard to please.. I believe there's a gold-plated Colnago in the Vatican somewhere... AFAIK nobody ever rides it. You could make enquiries... :)

I believe what you say about the bike and it's components.
On the detailed photos though there is rust all over.

Do you have a link to the Colnago - it sounds a bit bling but it could be the one ;-)

OK. I have found a nice bike - way more than I want to spend - I am going to start a new thread to get peeps opinions - yours would be much appreciated
