I'm 45 and lived through Bedford vans, Transit vans and Transit buses

What fond memories of vehicles do you have

Alison

Lying in a puddle, trying to smack the petrol pump on my MGB with a brick.

Watching my dad stuff an Alfetta with newspaper and filler to sell it(one of my earliest memories).

That sort of oily smell that old cars have.

Modern cars are boring. I have a little campervan now, though, which although not old is at least old-fashioned. Here it is being brought back to life:

At one time I was absolutely obsessed with Morris Minors. Had a '59 Traveller and a '63 four door. They taught me much about mechanics and car maintenance. Did the whole Morris Minor Owners Club thing, went to meets and social events. Time and money both being short meant old cars were no longer viable as daily transport so things moved on.

Morris Marina's, Hillman Avengers, Talbot Sunbeams, Rover SD1's, still love all old cars. First car i drove was a 1970 Mini in 1985 (i was 14), neighbour where i grew up had a MK2 Ford Capri 3.0 Ghia which i thought was the business 8) , made so much of an impression i ended up owning five Capri's over the years, most recent being a nice Signal Amber 1978 3.0 S
I've also been through phases with Mini's, Hilman imps and Yank Muscle (made a big impression on me in the 70's and 80's when you used to see Mustangs etc parked on side streets) most spectacular Yank i owned was a 68 Dodge Charger i had for a couple of years, that was fun :)

Earliest memory was of a Volvo Amazon which had been left in the garage of a house we moved into. Very evocative smells: the leather interior, and the old-oil-rustiness of the scrap yard we went to to grab some parts to fix it up.

When I grew up it was Triumph Dolomites, and 80's beemers. Never really grown out of the latter.

1st car i owned was a lada riva, i bought it for £40, it was only a few years old when i bought it, this was about 1992 fuckin great car

well for £40 lol cheaper than a 2nd hand bike

Early fords .That got stolen all the time forcing me to have to get the bus to school in the freezing cold, which i hated.
Not so fond memories of childhood

The fond one :D
Going out aged about 5 or 6 with my uncle who drove an articulated truck.Loved that :D So high up :D

First car I bought was a 67 mustang, cost £400, I didn't drive a cra when I bought it. I swapped the mustang for a 68 charger and had that when I took my test.

I was mechaniking for a bloke who raced an alfa, I went to the track in my charger and half way there the gearbox extension broke, so the charger went on the transporter and the race car was driven behind it;-)

The charger came with a shagged 383 motor, so I bought a £100 440 jensen intercepetor took the motor out and scrapped the rest!

I flogged cars for a while so I have owned all the late 60's early 70's fords and bmc cars including MKII and S type jags. Laid under all of them with an oxyacetylene torch repairing them as well.
