Unwell Bontrager Race

a while ago i had noticed a bubble on the seat tube of my Race, recently i noticed a few more. Did a bit more investigating, involving sanding the seat tube and was met with half a dozen holes where the frame has rusted through from the inside.

The parts are being transferred to my Bonty Privateer,

But i then have a frame, which for sentimental reasons if nothing else i don't want to loose. has anyone been in this situation and what did they do?

If it is worth it to you, you could have the tube replaced, which would be the only proper fix available. Bob Jacksons, Argos cycles and the like are able to do this sort of work, but it isnt cheap.

Show us a picture of the holes. Do you know how the rusting occurred and how moisture got in?

when my race or frame was re-sprayed by argos cycles, they told me they've seen a few rusted through at the back, i waxoilled mine regulally so no problems

not very clear, the holes aren't very big but they are there and there are a few.

a new seattube at argos is around £150 & yours certainly needs a new seattube.

You'll need a new tube. Dave charges £90 up depending on what tubing you go for. He can either TIG of fillet braze in a new one.

Fix it. $ is well worth it for a Butt-ranger Race.

What sort of condition is the rest of the frame in? You might find the same issue on other tubes..
