Ultimate V Brake

first generation silver ultimates with all the crazy machining and linkages are THE NICEST V BRAKES EVER MADE

imho

I've got Arch Supreme's on the Ritchey. My mates got Tri-Aligns and i've ridden a set of Ultimates, you can't really go wrong with any. Supremes are probably best for power, Ultimates have a nice feel at the lever. Tri'aligns can crack though

Thanks for all you views on the brakes fellas, the problem is I have used pauls and know that they are brill, and under £200.00 whereas the Avids are above this and dont want to throw money away.. so ideally want to know if anyone has tried the pauls and the ultimates.. Which is best for pure stopping power.. ? :? :?

avid, pauls are spongy in comparison, mainly thru lever flex.

I like the Avid levers more than the Paul Components. I use a set of Arch Supreme brakes w/ Avid Ultimates and in my opinion it's about as good as it gets.

I like the Paul V-Brakes, but still think the Arch Supremes look way better and seem more solid.

Si,

I've got Arch Supremes, Ultimates and XTR's and although all are great, Ultimates are just that - the best.

Not cheap, but worth it. And loads on ebay 2nd hand.

Genuinely the best. I use them with the ultimate levers too (even less cheap) because i am a tart, but I'm not sure the xtr v levers don't wortrk better with them. Feel more solid.

Agree, I like the Arch Supreme's too, they work best with the Ultimate levers. Finding parts for them is another story!

I run avid arch supremes (the doper than ultimate brakes) with pauls love levers. I love the setup. Zero flex, zeros complaints. Ive been thinking about getting pauls brakes to match my sweet levers but its hard to imagine the bike without the beefy cnc brakes.
