Did you get anywhere yet?
I managed to get through after letting the phone ring for a looooooooong time, only to get cut off when they tried to 'transfer' me. Haven't tried again yet.
Yup, managed to get through on about the 20th try, spoke to Steve there, and my bits should have landed with him yesterday. I suspect / hope I'll here from him next week with quote, but he seemed to thing turn around would be pretty quick.

I'll report back with updates as and when I have news.

I think they set the bar too high when I first dealt with them, got straight through and got a really quick turnaround.
Now I simply can't even get to speak to someone for what may just be a yes/no answer to my query. Tried a couple of times today and the phone just rings out unanswered. E-mails unanswered too. So frustrating! 😫

sorry, probably my fault, they'll be working on the 44 items I sent them lol

would acorn do a complete frame in 3DV?
Yes, they did this Pace RC200 that I repaired for Daveyla (Dave Bond) last year.

I has chemically stripped some of the original purple anodising for the welding repairs, then carefully stripped the remaining anodising by hand (rather than dipping the whole frame) so as to to affect the original surface finish too much.

IMAG0402 (Large).jpg

Acorn then did a light sodium hydroxide strip, followed by a nitric acid de-smut to unify the finish and clean off the precipitates from the alloy (the grey/black smuts on the surface) before the anodising, dyeing and sealing processes.
I completed the finish with a couple of coats of good wax car polish to feed the surface and make it less absorbent, as the anodising is very 'dry' when fresh. You can feel this when it sucks the oils and sticks to your fingers.

Any steel inserts will need removing, so generally just any rivnut bottle bosses etc, but on the Pace, there were also some helicoil thread inserts for the seat clamp and chain catcher.

I didn't polish to any sort of uniform finish, as the waxed can affect the uniformity of the finish.

All the best,

Awesome. Thanks for the response. I’ve finally thrown the towel in looking for a purple Zaskar so the next 16 inch BB one I get which is decent is heading over to acorn

I don’t know if anytime in the UK using 3DV. If you want 3DV then your probably best to use one of the paintball anodisers in America, certainly won’t be cheap though.

Quick update, I've not got the parts back yet, but I've had some photos to show the progress they are making.

Looks like close to half of its been done, and looking at the photos I'm pretty happy with the colour.

Hopefully I'll have it all back this week and I can share some pictures when its on the bikes its destined for.
