I believe there are several made for BMX, but they're a kludge. U brakes are just as good as cantis. If anything a bit easier to set up.

They did make a Canti to U-brake thing as part of their brake booster (Odyssey) or that's apparently what all the extra bits I have are for., wonder if it'll work the other way around.

mags with the mount upside down.. ?

I know where you're heading kase. . . As stated above the oddesy pitbull was a rollercam, but typical of most brakes of the era, the converter or backplate needed a single hole fitting. Bear in mind most BMX of the era took central bolt, road type sidepulls (all be it with greater tyre clearance depth>
Having been down ths route with 'cams, I can confirm its not worth the hassle trying to pull the central cam fron around the seat tube. There just isn't enough room

I have rebrazed a coupel of GTs to convert U to canti mount, and its ok for a bin-bike. Honestly, part of the charm of a vintage xizang and the like is the quirkiness of the u-brake, and other such details. I have a hankering for a 1991 xizang (not LE) so thts a ti front, cro-mo rear, on u brakes. Lavoie welded, and then build it up with campag stuff. I think that this woudl be a really good canvas for showcasing the campag products.

Keep the xizang period doug!

But how easy/elegant depends on the exact position of the U brake mounts in relation to the rim braking surface.

You might have trouble getting the wheel cylinders low enough for the pads to clear the tyre, even with re-working of the mounts. In other words, it doesn't always work that well....

Correct.

For example, Mag clamps reversed will work on an 18" GT frame, but will not work on a 19" as there is no room...

Is it simply because you are missing a U-brake Doug, or simply don't like them?

 You are right. I could did this solution on a "tandem-BMX" U brake bosses equiped. But, I remmeber I had to work on the clamps.

I agree too : A bike with U brake bosses has to be equiped with U brake or roller cam. Keep it has his original design  .
You have beautifull U brakes too : you can see at Paul Component

this is getting silly

i do not want magura brakes. im happy to run u brake or canti brake

im missing the screw in U brake studs which i cant get, hense looking for a convertor.

:?
