I was hit by a car and the cop gave me 50% of the blame since I only slowed down and didn't stop at stop sign. The fact that the driver was in the wrong lane, well that wasn't such a big deal. I knew that I would get nowhere when the cop said, "He was a good guy, a local guy." This was a small rural town with a large college, so a number of 'locals' (hell, we were local for five years too), didn't like students. When I mentioned this to several of my friends who were security guards they asked me what the cops name was and when I responded. All four of them went, "Oh, yeah, nothing was going to happen. Taylor hates students." And taylor was a university police officer.
When it comes to reflective clothing and lights. I have a light that I use when my really nice HID light isn't appropriate. It's not very bright and as far as I'm concerned is useless, but it fits the law, "Yes, officer, I had a light." I've been hit twice by cars and I suspect a third time will eventually happen.
As far as that "Only in America" thing, you Euros have really been giving a run for the money in silliness. (0.5
I read that story about that guy being killed and could only shake my head. Way too sad, followed by way too stupid.
