true brit build

I looked at doing this a while ago and asked the same question on the singletrack forum and got mixed responses. Will try to look up the post to see what people said. From memory I think the spokes and chain etc could have been an issue.

I think there's somehing in the magazine archive about this...

I tried this project with my Dave Yates.

At the time it was impossible to get a UK-made headset. Hope made one since. Only way I could get a stem was for Dave to make one. Pace, Xlite and Hope have all made contributions since.

Rims were also impossible. There are a couple of british brands now but it's rebadged stuff from Taiwan.

Spokes - no way.

Drivetrain - Goldtech did a cassette but it's scarce as rocking horse-dung
Chains, mechs and shifters - no way.

Rubber bits - Tyres, tubes and grips - ditto.

I think everyone who gets a UK built frame thinks about doing this... and then decided it's not worth the hassle or compromises.

I certainly did.

Yup, couldnt stray away from shimano for drivetrain components other than cranks & rings.

Then decided that thomson stuff was actually very nice and quite retro in spirit too....hence ended up with the RC200.

Theres a similar thread(non retro mind) on weight weenies looking at one country builds, kinda interesting.
