Inspired by recent posts by P20 and someone who went to the last Thetford Meet ( Boy'o'Boy?) I thought I would have a play with logging MTB rides using some techie gadgets.

P20 uses Nokia Sports Tracker, a free util (I think) for some Nokia SmartPhones, sadly, being a BlackBerry user I couldn't find anything free so I scored myself a copy of Trimble AllSport GPS http://portal.trimbleoutdoors.com/Defau ... ?TabId=259

My BlackBerry has a built in GPS and this little app gets installed onto the phone. I then rigged up an old phone holster on my stem using some foam padding, zip ties and imagination and voila....hi tech Pace RC200

Basically you enter your weight, set a few parameters, wait for a GPS lock and press 'start'...then go ride!
When you finish the data is automatically sent to a website where you can share the info (by publishing a link like below, keep it private or create groups for friends and password protect them from public viewing)

There's a bunch of us who ride weekly in Mid Bedfordshire (see Chicksands Thurs Night Rides in Rides/Meets) at a place called Rowney Warren, its a small dedicated trail centre in dense woodland with a good mix of short but very steep hills, trials, North Shore, Downhill, Freeride, 4x and Singletrack on a mixture of sandy and clay soil and the following link is how AllSport GPS logged last nights ride....hover over the graphs on the right for speed detail and toggle the time and distance to see where we stopped to fix broken bikes/pee/chatted

This is what it produces at the end of a ride:
