Re:

This method was cheaper than buying a 3D scanner and a multi axis machine?

Or am I missing something?

Yes you could send it off to a 3D printing bank like shapways. But not the most DIY of methods.

For the small number needed 3D scanning and machining will be too expensive and the ABS plastics that are used for 3D printing would be too weak IMO
Your first sentence makes no sense. 3D
scanning and then machining is the go to method for small volume prototyping of this sort of thing, nothing else comes close on price or accuracy. And costs have come down massively in the last couple of years as well. (Probably not far off halving as far as 3D scanning goes.)

And as far as 3D printing goes, you need to choose the right material.........
the mould has cost me approx 30p ? in material, each item maybe 10p , please do some cheaper and I will buy them instead
.

FFS I thought this place was full of creative fettlers and tinkerers. Obviously not.

Lots of people already have 3D scanners and small CNC machines at home. If you don't know any who do. You're shafted! ;)

i cast a wider rear cam today with a silica /carbon mix, it will be interesting how it feels re rotational play and release

Re:

why not save on all this jousting and tech talk and just buy them off of ebay - they do turn up you know!!
