Got to agree with the home brewing, made 5 gallons of plum wine in 2008 from my own plum tree that produced a bumper crop, it was all drunk during summer 2009 :D . Also made jam from it.
2009 the plum tree gave up producing any fruit but had like a gazzilion pears, threw away 5 heaped wheel barrow loads as i didn't know what to do with it, the trees are so damn big that i couldn't pick em. Anyway, got an experimental 5 gallon tub of pear wine, we'll see how it tastes in the summer.

Perry! A sixth form girl's drink. But good.

Stop yourself if you hear the words "gosh", "crikey" or "crush" coming out of your mouth. :P

any good tip to do home beer or cider .

I have an apple tree and throw away most of the apples every year as they get damaged before falling on the ground , but could be used to make cider .

I was lucky with the plums, they were exceptionally juicy and sweet and were fermenting by themselves before i added all the ingredients. I went for the simple method of dumping a load in a bucket, fill the bucket with boiling water cover and leave. supposed to be for a few weeks until there is a thick later of mould, but left it for a few months because it was fermenting anyway. removed the mould, filtered the skins and stones off then added the yeast n pectic enzyme n sugar n stuff. left for a few more months, final filter into bottles and yum yum. It turned out quite strong and virtually like a sherry but very more ish.

that method works for almost any fruit, but with apples you first need to determine what type you have. I think you slice one and time how long it takes before it starts to turn brown and then adjust your ingredients accordingly. A search on t'internet will surely tell ya.

I have vague memories of my dad doing beer home brew when we were kids. Something went wrong (cant remember) and he told us to get rid of it on the garden, as it would act like fertiliser. Me and my bro kept cracking open bottles and were getting 10 metre fountains of beer and spraying nasty neigbours house roof with it. Much fun.

In terms of drinking, I find the more exercise I do, the more resistant to hangovers. Four pints in winter leaves me with heap big headache. A gallon when I'm semi race fit in summer and I can barely tell I've been out.

Wash the apples.
Chop the apples.
Press the apples (you might find a local food co-op has a press you could borrow).
Pour into a clean, covered bucket.
Leave.

Eventually, you get cider. Sometimes a batch will fail, but about half the time it will be alright.

You can improve the chances of it being drinkable with sulphites, but it's nice to have something that happened by chance!

Adding yeast and optionally sugar will make the juice into wine.
