Third of malaria drugs 'are fake'

Counterfeit drugs is a big problem worldwide and it was in the past a certain terrorist organisation was involved in counterfeit drugs and other crucial things like aircraft parts in order to make the funds for it's activities.

But as to malaria medication, it was suggested there is something in Neem oil, of which in India, just about every village has got a Neem tree, but suggestion of the use of Neem is going down the route of alternative medicine which big pharma is against and tries through it's lobbying of governments to remove from the public sphere. But as long as what big pharma sells is expensive, the more likelihood that counterfeit drugs will be available, be that cheaply or at full price as the end user not knowing if they have fake or genuine due to the cost being the signifying factor i.e. expense means it's the real thing and not fake.

Perhaps the only way to kill the industry in fake and therefore useless medications is for rapid testing tools to be created and there made available to everyone so they may at point of sale randomly test the product prior to purchasing or indeed imbibing, either that or nationalise the pharmaceutical industries and there push the price of medications down so low there is no profit to be made in fake medications.

But big pharma lobbying had even hit the UK what with very effective alternative medicines being banned in the UK based upon minority occurrences of abuse, two I used to use were Melatonin and Kava Kava, two substances that did the job without creating dependency or disagreeable side effects, and no real sense why they got banned, but there are pharmaceuticals that do what they do, the trouble is, they create dependency which is of interest to industry despite what they say to be pc.

I found the anti-bug spray was best. Better to keep them off you rather than risk the drugs

I must say, I used to prefer the G&T prevention, just had to make sure the tonic water did actually have quinine in it as a lot of it doesn't these days. Mind actual quinine anti malaria tablets used to give me mouth ulcers like something horrible.

certain anti malaria drugs, Larium, also have a bad, and in some cases life threatening, effects. They change your psyche

If only the pedlers of fake drugs could catch malaria..........

i saw a program in brazil about a farmer who stopped using chemicals on his cattel and started using neem, he grows it himself and sprays the cattle and they are much healther and fitter than when using expencive chemicals, he was also sprying his crops to keep insects at bay

Interesting. I have used them frequently, had to change types over time.

Ironically I ended up getting Dengue fever, after relaxing about being bitten by what I thought were the wrong type of mosquitoes for Malaria.

Ive just come back from the jungle having abandoned all the usual repellants etc. I took a neem mixture that My mrs made which was pure neem oil mixed with chamomile water (which was purely a carrier), My 4 year old boy did not get a single bite from any bugs whatsoever, I am usually battered by mosquitos sand flies and some foul little things called bette rouge which get in your clothes and feast on your sweatiest bits. I picked up a couple of bites only because I was applying the repellant to my boy before myself after coming out of the sea etc.
It stinks like sweaty marmite sandwiches so is not ideal if you are getting intimate with sweet fillies but that aside I really could not recommend it enough.
I have tried commercially made neem products before and they are useless but go to the horses mouth, get some of the proper stuff and it is absolutely amazing

At least situations like this are no british problem. It works the same way in every other country, too. The pharma industry will only promote stuff they can get a patent for so they can earn a lot of cash without manufacturers' competition. Natural remedys and dietary supplements can't be patented. Effectiveness is no criterion in this business desicions.

The fun part of this mess is the internet democratises really everything. 20 years prior to this you would have had not a slight chance to get the right information of what's useful and what isn't without relying upon the advice of the same people who maufacture that stuff. I know it's awkward to say on a retro board but times have changed for the better.
