I remember that one It was shame in the Mac app that the police weren't more pro-active in the first place :roll:

True, it's a shame he had to ultimately get to the stage of embarrassing the Police to get them to actually do anything about it - reading his blog gives the impression that they didn't even return his calls. Guess they just assumed he'd go and buy another laptop, or that it was insured.

Bit like the times I've reported a stolen bike and felt like asking them what they'd do if it was a car. Often a less valuable car at that.

It is incredibly hard to trace stolen IT gear, and obviously extremely difficult to track stolen bikes.

Stolen cars are often linked to other crimes.
They have to decide where to apply limited resources.

Glad this guy got his laptop back, just a shame the guy who had it was not the actual thief. That would have been a result.
