Although I've been riding mountain bikes for 20 years I've always kept one bike as my favourite, which has been brilliant. It's a 93 Specialized Rockhopper.
Originally it was Altus equipped, with Specialized rims, saddle etc. In the late 90s I upgraded the gears, chainset, brakes & levers for Deore DX, and following a bump put on new Mavic 231 wheels with LX hubs.
Two years later, for comfort sake, I decided to put RockShox Dart front suspension on with a new WTB saddle, and at the same time changed to threadless headset with new stem and bars.
Anyway last year I had another fall and did some serious damage to the frame so decided to buy another one, picked up a good quality 1994 Trek 8000 frame off ebay, and transferred all the kit across. I had to buy a few new bits such as seatpost and rear cassette.
It's still riding great and I hope I can have another 17 years good use out of it. They don't make bikes like my Rockhopper any more.
