Best tablet? Whichever is on special offer :). Tesco Hudl gets good reviews, I have an ASUS and an ACER both bought as end of line manager specials from Staples. The ASUS has a flakey charging port but probably due to clumsiness.

Re:

Just get the HUDL2
Quick enough for your use and more

Only 99quid now

I have one and many other and more technocally powerful ones, modified ones etc.

But its perfect for the intended use. Add a micro SD card (nice 32 or 64GB sa!msung Evo from Amazon and you are sorted.
In the apps for movies etc set them to save to the SD card automatically, get something like app2sdIII to move apps to the sdcard if you run out of space which you probably won't if not playing games.

It a nice size, sturdy, fine sound, nice display , light enough and thin enough etc.

Re:

I have a Google Nexus 7 and it has a really nice, vivid, sharp screen and is well made etc., and it's great for watching movies, listening to music or reading e-books, etc., but if I want to do something interactive, like browsing the internet, on-line shopping, typing guff on forums etc., I still much prefer to sit at my desk and use a full size screen and a proper mouse and keyboard.

I wouldn't spend a fortune on a tablet, because if you're like me, you may find that some things are a bit fiddly on a small touch screen and that it's not a complete replacement for a full size desk top or laptop PC. Before I got it, I thought it would be nice to sit in the armchair and surf the web, rather than sitting at my desk, but in actuality, I never do that.

i have the nexus 7 too and the hudl 2 is better to use, plenty of bezel around the 8" screen (like the nexus) to make holding and typing easy unlike the trend to reduce the bezel on posher newer ones.
grippy back and screen is perfect (not outside but few are)

I have a 10" toshiba (with a keyboard now), the nexus 7 (most up to date OS one these) and use an ASUS similar to the nexus 7 and an apple air2 at work.
Must say don't like the Air2 much, faffy one you get use to android and windows systems and nothing it has that the much cheaper don't do as well.

Some people complain about charging problems (we had this, it doesnt like certain chargers one oddly being my nexus 7 one and older hudl 1 ones (all are 2A + chargers, but the one that comes with it is fine) not tried the other chargers since the last few update put out to solve this among others imporements.

Some complain of battery life, but for browsing a few games etc it last perfectly long enough.

Though I have got the family into the habit of putting things on charge over night, no matter what the charge and to place it on charge if not using it for a while. still you get quite a few hours out of it.

It is less the £100 so why they expect more from it i don't know.

Refurbished models put up every now and again for 70 or 80 quid (when the price was £130, refurbs may be less).
Go have a play in the shops.

Of course there are better for more, just I don't see the point.

The attraction of the iPad is the OS as well as the hardware. I have a ten incher that has a screen as good as the iPad retina, and I picked it up for buttons. My wife is an iPad fan, I prefer things that don't attract attention.

On that point, we were on a train recently despairing at the number of people who spent the entire journey staring into their tablets. It was a beautiful day running through a landscape people come from all over the world to experience. Very sad.
