Hi All,

Yesterday I purchased what seems to be a Tange Switchblade. This will fit my Bontrager well. I am really happy with the fork but there seems to be some sort of strange collar which I haven't seen on any of the images Google comes up with.

Does any of you have a clue on what this is?

Thanks in advance

What diameter is the steerer? If it's 1" then that silver collar may be an adapter to make it 1"1/8th, so the bigger crown race will fit.

Time to get the vernier calipers out to check....

Old Pace forks use something similar due to the Pace steerer being a straight tube, where as most steerers flare out slightly at the crown, hence the crown race will slide down the steerer and press into place at the bottom.

Although if you say the silver collar doesn't appear in any online pics then my guess I'd that it's an adapter for 1" ---> 1"1/8th. Headset, or even a different steerer entirely from the original.

An adapter to lengthen the effective a-c? Where does the crown race sit Casper?

That collar looks as though its been fitted to allow the fork yoke to pass under the down tube on the frame it was fitted to, the crown race should sit on the upper shoulder.

I might be a custom made adapter. I would not use it if it positions the crown bearing so high up the steerer tube.

As jimo says, get the Verniers out, although from your pics, the collar looks bigger than 11/8".

Are there marks or burrs, polishing on its top surface and steerer as if to suggest a crown race had been fitted there?

Lovely forks, had some on my old splatter Explosif BITD. If I could get some sus corrected ones with disc mount and 1/18" steerer, I'd jump at them!

I will check the diameters tonight. Although I wonder if it is an adapter. The steerer is a straight tube. Without the collar the crown race would be mounted in an angle.

That's what I thought as well. Maybe this collar was used on a rigid (non suspension corrected)fork in frames that were suspension corrected? Anyway, the crown race sits on top of the collar.

Indeed

I will check for this tonight as well.

Cheers all!
