The best guess of two bike shops and myself turns out to be about 10mm too long , so if anyone has a 73x107, or something similar in good condition they'd like to swap, that'd make me feel less of a fool! Been in and out of the bike, but never left the lounge...

Alternatively I suppose it could go for £14 posted, which is just eversoslightly cheaper than the damn cheap folks at CRC (I bought it in an actual shop for lots more  support your local and all that!).

Plus it will come with a liberal coating of quality grease...

I'm clutching at straws here, I think you can tell!

must it be 73mm?

Well, I could grind the shell down I suppose...

I've got a 68 in a 'spare' frame, I could pull out as an alternative swap, thinking about it, but I definitely need a short axled 73mm :(

Cheers for the thought!

Getting there; mmmBop's got a couple of good rides under it's belt already, think I've got the set up about right now, so will be switching the bars & stem as soon as I can afford to. New brakes are on now too, so that should be an improvement. I think 'unphased' is the right word for it - going to take a while to appreciate it's limits!

The Ibis was looking very close to done until I pulled the cranks off again  Will be rolling as soon as the chainring & BB are in hand, everything else is done, bar some brake pads.

All very exciting!

Looking at CRC and feeling impatient bump

*edit*

Just realised how ungrateful that might sound to all the lovely folks who've offered to rummage through their spares boxes for me - I really didn't mean it like that at all!

Very grateful, just keen to see the bike finished 8)

Chris, it's for my Ibis Alibi; I picked up a set of FSA carbon cranks cheap a little while back, so I'm fitting those.

I've been running HTIIs for a while (now on the 'modern' bike), so wasn't sure what axle I'd need in a square taper - turns out I guessed wrong!

Thought I'd be ok with a bit more length as I'm only running inner & middle rings, but the chain line was 'orrible and there's plenty of clearance to go closer in and improve it.

Can't wait to get the damn thing rolling again, although it does like nice in the lounge by the Xmas tree...! :xmas-big-grin:
