I have two sets of rear cantis and would like to swap one pair for a pair of front ones.

I actually think it is only the pads that differ so would happily swap a pair or rear pads for a pair of front ones

Swap the pads over left to right or buy some new ones ?
AS long as the cartridge pad enters from the rear you'll be fine .

But all you find is the pads hook behind the fork (or brace) but infact they work better that way around anyway. (using rear on the front as you have). Bodies are the same

Yes it was XT M735 which had longer bodies for extra leverage on the fronts

735 where teh same, both super low profile.
M900 had different designs

500LX and Deore DX/LX also had a longer armed model for 'fenders'

Your going to make me have to put a picture up aren't you

yeah! :p
(cos I know what was wrong with what I said, but hey if you can find some 735's ;))

I do believe they (re M734 ;)) had front/rear designate one's but from what I've seen they have never been different in real life or mentioned as different in the cats. Came in Black or Silver.
Don't mind seeing them different, be good to know (I assume the rear would be the lower profile one)

Just let me get the engraving tool out

Sorry I only have DX in stock, but same body as XT. There seem to be a few differences between the front and rears for this year.

What's the model codes on the back of them M650 ? (DX/LX model) was a F&R set by the looks of it and M651 was the longer fender brakes (maybe two rears or even longer) M650 also used two different straddle 'official' setting lengths.

734/650 does also seem to have switched to be classed a F&R set in 1992 ? Nice to get the comparison pics.

Did the OPer sort his problem out
