Supertrol as alternative to JR Weigle framesaver

Greetings,

I want to move on from spraying WD40 into tubes to a more specific product.

I've heard good things about jr Weigle framesaver but it's a faff to get hold of. When trawling the forums I came across the product called Supertrol that seems easy to get hold of. Just wondered if this was the same sort of product and if it gives good results?

I've heard if mixed results with waxoyl - perhaps not ideal for bike frames - but I like the way it kills the old rust and doesn't just prevent. Not sure if supertrol does that.
Might end up using waxoyl as it send popular.

Supertrol is perfect. You can get it from MSC industrial supply. Squirt loads in, swill it around, drain out the excess and you are done. I have used it on all my steel frames and a few rot prone classic cars as well.

That's good to know, but does it kill rust as it goes in like waxoyl? Not a lot of info on it out there really.

Not that I am aware of. I didn't appreciate Waxoyl had any rust eating properties. Do you think your frame has anything more than a bloom of oxide in it then? If it is a rare and valuable thing and you think there is some established heavy corrosion I suppose you could pour something like Dinitrol into it then drain. That is a proper rust treatment but I would think it would gob up the seat tube something rotten and if you were going to this extent then a specialist product like framesaver would probably be better. If it just looks like bit of surface corrosion and its just a rider then anything oil based that doesnt wash off too easily should be fine. Supertrol dries to a slightly waxy / greasy film.

It's valuable to me! I want to ride it and keep it nice. I don't think the rust is bad inside, just surface I hope. Been reading a bit, and might pour some kurust in there, slosh around for 15 mins, let that dry and then use the supertrol. Got to better than nothing.
