I'm looking for a pair of pre-1987 downtube Suntour Powershifters - the ratchet type, not friction or indexed. I have band-on NOS versions to swap or will buy.
I don't think the powershifters were ever available as a braze on variant, the only other ones with the ratchet that are braze on are the Simplex 'retro friction' versions.
They are reasonably rare and it's often said that they were not made but I had a pair a few weeks ago and made the mistake of selling then to a friend before I realised how hard they are to replace. I can't remember the part number but I think they may have been part of the Cyclone family. Still doing my homework to find out more. In the meantime, have just bought a pair of Simplex Retrofriction shifters so will try those too. Thanks for your note. When I find the correct part number I'll post it here.
I looked on Kitching's guide and there is no mention of a braze on Suntour power shifter but cyclone friction shifters aplenty.
I've a set of the band on PS fitted to my 59 carlton after I stupidly sold a very sleek pair of mint simplex shifters and latterly a set NOS 1st series Dura Ace friction shifters..DOH!!
luck hunting though
Just found the text from the original eBay listing:
Suntour Sprint LD-4850 shifters
These New Old Stock shifters are from the Sprint groupset, which was positioned between Suntour's Cyclone and top-end Superbe Pro groupsets in the late 80s. They feature the 'power shifter' ratchet mechanism, which is designed to equalise the force required for up- and down-shifts. Being non-indexed friction shifters, they will work equally well with any gearing combination, and with any make and model of derailleurs.

They definitely have the PowerShifter ratchet, and I definitely wish I hadn't sold them
Just seen them on velobase..
there's a few about on ebay.com but seem a tad expensive
