suntour microdrive chain length

hello all

can anyone out there tell me what length chain i should be using for suntour 8 speed md setup? i ve tried the chain length calculators but these seem to be way to long after putting in the details. i have a short cage rear mech with 28 teeth on the largest rear sprocket!

can anyone out there help please

WTF is a chain length calculator?

And starting point as ever is big/big then add two links.
If you are running triple and a short cage you are going to struggle to get all the extremes to work, you are either going to get a loose chain in some of the hard on the little ring, or a snapped chain on the big ring.

You'll have to decide what's best on your own.

While large, large plus a bit is the nicest way (and Shimanos official way). Suntour actually does it a bit differently in their setup

From disraeligears, thought we had a better copy in the archive but its not there and can't find it on my drive.

The method i tend to use for road kit is similar to the suntour method, chain is the right length when the axle, top and bottom jockey wheels are all as near as damn it to basically above each other....... Doesn't work as well with modern wider range stuff. Or mtbs
