Suntour Gear Cable

Apologies for the daft newbie question, hopefully someone can assist.

I recently picked up a couple of old Dawes Galaxy bikes, they've got band on Suntour shifters (for non-indexed gears) on the down tube. The shifters are fine, the cables aren't so they've gone in the bin.

The little round bit of the cable that holds the cable in place in the shifter is quite small and I'm not sure what replacement cables to order, anyone got any ideas? Will Shimano or Campag stuff work?

I tried my LBS who just said they don't do Suntour stuff!

I doubt it helps but the rear mech is a Suntour VX and the bike is probably late 70s/early 80s

I would have thought any cable would do provided the 'lump' at the end fits the lever, that's all that matters. I think the ones for Shimano levers are quite small.

I'd change your LBS if that's the best answer they can give!

suntour nipples are smaller than shimano so they don't fit properly, i think campag might fit, i'll try later on.

i do have some suntour inner cables spare but i think they might be short, meaning only usable for front down tube shifter to front mech but maybe not for the rear mech.

i'll get back to you.

If Campag fit I'll be happy, if they do fit is it normal modern Campag style cables you've tried with?

Worst case scenario is I'll have to get my Dremmel out and grind it down so it fits but I've a feeling don't want to loosen the bond between nipple and wire.
