Specialized Stumpjumper FS 1994 Bottom Bracket

Hello!
Does anyone have some information on bottom bracket spec for this frame? Trying to get one on eBay but not sure if it’s Shimano UN51 or UN72, 73mm shell and 110mm axle. It will get a full stx rc 3 x 8 Speed groupset.

Hello and welcome

Firstly a minor correction - the frameset you have is from the ‘93 range.

As for BB choice, STX-RC will require a 110-113 axle, here’s an extract from the Sheldon Brown website to clarify as there are a few versions of STX-RC.


I’m not sure whether it’s a 68 or 73mm BB shell (I’d have thought 68mm), but I guess you can measure that yourself Happy to measure mine if you can’t.

Interesting, I saw this frame listed as both 93 and 94 so I wasn’t sure about that.
I had a basic ruler to measure it so that’s why I thought it was 73mm. Since I don’t have a calliper to measure properly I’d appreciate if you could help me by measuring yours the right way.

When it says 110 - 113 does it mean that either one would work?

You are correct - it does have a 73mm BB shell.

And yes, either a 110 or 113 axle should work for your crank choice, just a nominal difference in frame clearance between them.
