Life just goes on ;

I watched some 'official' yapping on on the tv the other day, when being asked by the media why is it Britain is always unprepared for snow, well, the answer was money as usual and the Ostritch syndrome, so basically stuff them, take responsibility for ourselves.
Exactly what does it cost to enable us to exist when it snows ?
If you have a car, get some sort of snow and ice traction and drive as if you didn't. That sort of stuff doesn't cost much, maybe even less than the cost of a good tyre. Then there is winter tyres, a bit more expensive, well, really quite a bit, but if one can afford a decent car, then tyres and another set of wheels should not be a problem.
Any skiers here, try telemark skiing, good exercise.
Snow shoes, they exist
And not forgetting ice cleats, the ones I linked on here recently have sold out, but more expected in this week and at £8 a pair, even dolites can just about afford them,( Mine get used every day, as I really fear ice under foot and it is hilly here). But there are many available on fleabay, and despite the rise in cost due to the demand, some are really cheap, too cheap to quibble over, get 'em why you can, fit the family out, better than broken bones and wingeing kids.
Failing that, just drive self tapping screws into an old pair of boots, they at least afford some grip when the rubber fails.
The bottom line, if you are not equipped, don't risk it.
But engaging the old Boy scout motto ;
Be prepared
For winter comes every year.
