Well I'd discovered a while ago that pretty much all the trails they've been putting in around my I can ride in the middle chainring (till I'm knackered anyway). Which is good, but then I've always tried not to cross chain too much.
Now I was having an issue with my Xizang, it was having a fit in the lower gears, right when you needed them, figured it was a cross chaining thing, wasn't an issue in the small ring... till the other day, was all bad. Got it home on the stand, all messed up, couldn't figure it out.
I had had a big crash a while ago where the bike and I went down drive side, figured then that its a bent flismy XTR mech...or bent hanger, ouch. Then I realised the reson I went down was the issue deciding to jump the cogs when I was trying to climb a rock...
Decided to put another wheel it, took the disc whell off my Zaskar, not the same issue, the original wheel, it was skipping in only the 2nd biggest cog, but when you tried to adjust, everything went out of wack. New wheel was fine till it got to the biggest cog (both 9speed)...argh, different issue.
Thought today, lets have another look before handingto the bike store... figure it's either the cog, the mech, the hanger or the muppet trying to figure it out... letsjust figure it out... cassette was a 32...the other wheel...surprise to me a 34. Ok diving into the parts bin, pull out an old box with an well used cassette, 32...whip it on... no issues...
careful look at the cogs, slight bend in the 2nd cog... yay, well ...yay. No bent hanger, no $300 mech, just need a new cassette, too bad the bent one is relatively new.
