Skinny tyres for 27 1/4 rims?

Re:

Thanks. My bike has Michelin World Tour tyres at the moment, which appear to be in good nick. But, they are really thick, they look a bit like hybrid tyres. I'll keep a look out for the Panaracer Paselas. Depending on how much skinnier they (or other recommendations people might make) are may influence when I decide to switch, which will happen sometime between 'immediately' and 'when the Michelins wear out' depending on perceived advantage.

I must admit that I pumped the tyres up to 80psi. It seems that I should check my rims to see if they are straight or hooked. As if they're straight rims I read online that I shouldn't go above 70-75psi. Should I rush out and let some air out?

Re:

This may help, these are two near identical Carlton Criteriums, ones has Pasellas the other WTs...

Thanks. They're a bit thinner, but not with a chiseled profile like some tyres that I've seen on modern bikes. Given that difference, I'd be inclined to use the WTs until they wear out then reconsider my options.

Re:

I've found Conti Ultra Gatorskins to be good. 27x1 1/4, but not as bulky as World Tours (and faster rolling).
I have three dark tan walled versions that I no longer need, actually (1 unused, 2 lightly used)...

What are the skinniest least road resistance tyres that I can put on 27 x 1 1/4 rims?

this question of narrow 27" tyres often pops up, not many quality brand names make them nowadays there's Continental Ultra Sport at 27" x 1.1/8th which have a very smooth profile or the lesser well known Sava tyres do a 27" x 1" whitewall << http://www.cycleking.co.uk/TYRE-27inchx1inch-(25-630)-SPORTS-WW-(SAVA)-84-170-product-1578.html >> they're cheap and I've had a set on my 27" wheels for over 1000 miles and no punctures yet! their profile is a modern 630/25c....I've even got a pair of gumwall Sava's
that are 27" x 3/4" (630/20c) but these need the narrower 27" rim rather than the traditional 27" x 1.1/4"

Re:

I have just placed an order for a pair of Sava 27 X 1" to use on my RO Harrison. The 1 1/4" random pair (found hanging on garage wall) currently fitted only just fit between the chainstays with minimal clearance so anything would be an improvement. I was considering the 11/8" Contis but I haven't had much luck with Contis generally so was a bit reluctant. I will update on the Savas when fitted. Thanks for the suggestions eveyone.
