My 92 Orange Clockwork is now at crank/chainring stage & I am looking
for more advise.
What should I be looking for? Salsa? Middleburn? or a mixture of other bits
I think I want a 33T or 34T ring. What other brands should I look for?
so if any of you can help....Thx

SJS cycles make a nice solid single speed ring in most sizes and PCD's also Blackspire make the mono veloce ring which I think you can get from CRC. Charile the bike monger(google it) has a few too. The salsa's look nice though. Surly also make a ring I believe in stainless steel a bit dearer but should last longer thy also make a alloy one.

As for sizing there's a nifty online calc which if you input your crank centre to axle length will give you a range of sizes for the magic length where you won't need a tensioner. Takes a bit of playing around with but does work. You could also try you geared bike and see what suits, start at a 2:1 ratio i.e 32/16 and go from there.

Gusset make some really serious and good chainrings for single speed.

A Sugino Mighty 900 in 180mm crank length is also a good option if you can find one, I think SJScycles may have some.

Cheers

Raceface make most of their cranks in 180. Also you could get a Shimano DXR if you want that sort of thing. Also Truvativ make a nice looking ss chainset for under £100. It is meant for BMX but it uses a standard isis fitting.

Personally I'd go for the Middleburn as I like the fact that it's a English company. I try to support our native businesses as much as possible.
