In the weight conscious 80s and 90s, we used to run road mechs and try to get the smallest cage we could, and we were pretty good at remembering just what gear combinations front and rear were impossible - for which read ‘would tear the transmission to pieces’. Then XT came out in small, med and long. Excellent. But what is the relative rarity of early short cage XT versus medium and long ...and does relative rareness impact on prices?
