Shimano Tiagra medium cage question

Building a new hack bike from odd and sods from the shed .
Sold my old used XT rear rear mech a while back
So I need a new medium cage rear mech.
The Tiagra RD4700 looks great value for money but it is 10 speed .
Past experience has told me to tread carefully. plus what i have read on the net.
Hoping to use a Tiagra RD4700 rear mech with shimano 105 9 speed bar end shifters .
Will the cable pull be right/ enough? .
I under stand the 4700 is recommeded for use only with the same model sti shifters ie 10 speed .
Any thoughts welcome. ie cage width pulley size cable pull issues

or a resonable 9 speed rear ...anyone

4700 tiagra has a different cable pull ratio to earlier 10spd stuff

We've never been able to make it work with anything other than the correct shifters (4700) in our workshop

Tiagra 4700 is closer in implementation to 11 speed stuff than the older stuff, and isn't cross compatible.

Re:

Heh? So Tiagra 4600 and 4700 not the same despite both 10 speed?

I'm crossing 4600 mechs and shifters with all sorts of stuff but staying clear of road 11sp and mtb 10sp.

Re:

Thank you all for your input .
Have had a further look on the net and read about incompatibility within the Tiagra 10 speed range :? ie older models and newer stuff .
Shimano even go as far as to say so themselves :!:

I will opt for a good old Deore which seems to work with about anything...well almost .

Must remember not to be to hasty in getting rid of items from shed ....you never know when you will need it
