shimano/suntour compatibilty

A shimano chainset shouldn't be a problem. Although i'm pretty sure a shimano cassette will cause issues with a suntour shifter.....

(Stands, foot tapping on the floor, waiting to be corrected!!!)

hi fella,

A suntour shifter would work fine with shimano rear block as long as you are prepared to run the shifter in the friction mode, (Non Indexed) :) if you run the suntour shifter on a non suntour block the indexing will be out by a bit  :)

I have run my xc pro shifter with a xtr cassette and rear mech with no problem .

shimano/suntour compatibility

Thanks fellas. Finances are dictating what I have kicking about spare at the moment, until I get a suntour chainset.

Suntour+Shimano in indexed 7 speed= no
Ditto in 8 speed= yes.

Interesting to hear that 8 speed combo will work - how so?

Also to chuck another related (hoping non-thread hijack  ) question into this - how would a SRAM road cassette work on a current 8 speed Suntour MicroDrive system? Would the cassette even fit onto the hub?

Suntour accushift - Shimano cassette

I have got the same problem running Suntour accushift X press and 7 speed rear cassette - It slips on 2 gears.

Suntour changed their spacings when it looked like they were starting to lose the " compatability wars " of yesteryear.
