Shimano M numbers?

What M number for the 98 XTR stuff :?: Im building a 98 bike up and need to garnish it with XTR

For 98 you'll be after a combination of M950 and M951. From memory * speed M951 parts appeared in 98.

M951 8 speed shifters have the remote control capability and M951 V brakes have the black parrallel link.

bit of a hijack but when did M950 first appear?

I've built my 95 DBR with it and am pretty sure it's not quite period correct, although extremely functional and cheaper to replace than M900!
