shimano lx 56X brifter/shifter attachment

i'm building a 1994 stumpjumper for my girlfriend, and want to give it an 8-speed upgrade. it originally had LX 563 (7-speed) levers which can be had cheaply, and i'm wondering if i'll be able to attach an rtx-rc 8-speed shifter i have kicking around in my drawer to these? is the attachment the same/universal? i've been having trouble finding the 565 levers (the 8-speed equivalent of the 563), so i'm wondering if maybe getting the 563 levers and adding my 8s shifter to the right lever is a possible compromise. i've borrowed some images from ebay and a poster named beagle2, showing the levers without shifters attached, as well as the shifter i'd like to attach, respectively. any help is appreciated.

The levers you have in the pictures you borrowed are M560 not 563.
M563 have a bolt going through the bottom not the top, as the top of the pod has a plastic window which rises to nest on the handlebar. M560 are the only ones like that. BTW, M567 is when it goes 8spd.

All the LX shifter pods from this time seem to break really easily, I have not had much luck.
M560's are the best looking and that combo seems like it would work. I might have some M560 levers knocking around could let go (with potentially fixable shifters).

thanks for the help. as it turns out, i was able to find some 565 8-speed levers, so i won't have to cross this 560/stx bridge, but it's good to know for future reference!
