Anyone know if it would take an 8 spd cassette ?
Save me taking it all apart again, fitting an 8spd then wondering why it isnt working

Anyone any ideas ? :)

Re:

As mentioned, it's 7 speed only, but you can easily swap the freehub out for an 8 speed one.

Well thanks everyone :D i guessed as much.

I think ill look towards thumbies though im a rapidfire lover, but needs must if thats the only option.

Any other shimano 7 spd rapidfire available in pods only ? Alivio was 7 spd, i had the sti but ive only ever seen alivio in sti :?

There were a fair few aftermarket rapidfire mounts: Magura made them for one. These allow you to salvage rapidfires from all the early 7 speed systems. I suspect that the later RF+ mounts are the same.

thumbies are better though, switch them to friction and you could out a 10 speed cassette on. In fact take a 9 speed cassette drop one cog and you have a 8 speed cassette that will fit on your 7 speed freehub. You can do the same with a 10 speed cassette to get a 9.....

after a bit of flushing and regreasing, these are always pretty good in 7/8spd versions

just bare in mind you cant mix and match old original STI with later as the the mounts are different
