Shimano Deore XT U Brake questions

Hi,
I'm hoping people can answer my U brake questions for me :-

I have a 1991 GT Zaskar that I'm re-building.
I have 99% of the rear Deore XT U-brake. The only two bits I'm missing are the "Boss Caps" that sit over the spring caps.

Firstly, are these caps metal or plastic?
Second, will caps from any of the other models, i.e. DX, fit the XT
U-brake.
I though about using two Shimano Sharks Tooth if I can't find the caps, but read that this is not possible if you have the brace?

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

They are plastic, and since the old U-brakes are no longer much in service in the mainstream bike world any longer, any local bike shops that have bins of used brake parts will likely have a bunch of these available, possibly for free.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I know there not around much these days, but want to keep the Zaskar as original as I can.
Anyone else know if the caps are interchangeable between models?

Also, I have thought of asking but no bike shops seem to have any amount of "bits" these days. I agree with your comment though.
