shimano deore xt compact drive fc-m73 chainset compatability

i have an fc-m737 chainset, after attaching it to my 1990 kona lavadome i found that i could not get the front mech to adjust enough to get on the top chain ring....

has any one got any advice as to correct this? or direction to where i have gone wrong? The chainrings are 94pcd and are 46, 36, 22..my rear cassette is a 13 to 30 ratio...the front mech is a 28.6 bottom pull...

How long's your bottom bracket axle?

yeah, sounds like the axle is too long. the m737 needs a 106mm axle.

is that 68/107 size bb?...i'm just being lazy..i'm in france my bike is in the uk so i cannot measure it right now... Wink
