Shimano chain too short

Just a quick question before I embarrass myself at my LBS. I have a 9 speed Shimano HG chain that's about 4-6 links short for the long cage I've got fitted. Now do LBS carry a 'supply' of spare links or am I destined to spend more money on a replacement chain.

I'm guessing it's not too wise to link the chain to these 4-6 links using two SRAM Missing Links?

I would have hoped that your LBS would carry some spares in from all those chains they have fitted for previous customers , but normally nowdays, I find LBS really unhelpful, and 9/10 they try and sell you a new item... but......

If you let me know which HG model chain it is fella, I might have some spare links, and I'll pop them in the post for ya... :)

Also normally shimano recommend the use of there special 'connecting pin' to reconnect the chain but I have used (and I am sure there are others) sram's quick links with no problems.. :) these you can buy off 't' net... :)

:)

I'm finding that, especially when I tell them I'm starting the restoration of a 1992 Marin Bear Valley SE......'Would sir like a new Trek or Specialized?'

I've seen a few of those and was expecting to have to use them.

I'll have a look tomorrow in the workshop for you then fella... I'll PM you if I can sort it for you ... not sure if I have any HG73's though , I normally run higher spec ones than that, but think that any HG 9 speed chains should snap together nicely... :)

Oh! ....... . did you say restoration..........  did I not mention that each link is £ 4.75 plus postage sir...   how many links did you need... 4-6 .... tap ... tap..tap.... that'll be £ 28.50 for the 6.. or £ 19.00 for the 4 .... plus the postage....
