shadow mechs

Been thinking about getting a shadow XT to use with some Paul Thumbies & Dura Ace 9s commandeurs. So I watched them through e-bay just to see what they "go for". Interestingly the latest (771?) Shadow mechs get much better auction prices compared to the same series standard models. This was both in Germany and the UK and quite the opposite to the big S's previous innovation, the dual controls.

Got an XTR one on my new build,easy to set up and looks cool but haven't actually used it in anger yet,only use the singlespeed this time of year!

Need a new rear mech for my modern bike. Anybody got a shimano shadow mech. Any good?

Yes, I think they're excellent. Sit well out of the way and the cable routing is a big improvement over that big loop (or having to use an Avid Rollamajig).

Don't bother with the long cage (SGS) version though - get the medium (GS) cage (which is still pretty long..)
The GS works fine with a 22/32/44 front and 12/34 rear, whatever Shimano or anyone else tries to tell you.
