Sell up, break or keep it?

With a new Kona Kula on the way my old Claud Butler MTB will soon be surplus to requirements, now I had planned to strip the forks, headset, stem, handlebars, gears, cranks and wheel off it and transfer to my wifes Trek.
However I have now come across this forum and it appears it may be a treasured beast so I was thinking of maybe selling it all on or even storing it and putting on road tyres for commuting.
It is a '93 Claud Butler Anteaus 653 Magnum (Limited Edition top of the range at the time), with a handbuilt Reynold 653 Magnum steel tubeset frame, it a 19" size and bright orange enamel finish. It has XTR rear mech, XT front and XT thumbshifters, XT hubs with Wolber rims, Magura Hydrostop Mountain Rim brakes and XT Chainset.
It was orignally fitted with one of the Marzzochi drilled out forks, but I had this swapped at purchase for a Manitou2 (at the time is was the best) which subsequently failed (elastomer turned to mush) and I fitted a '99 Judy XC, Aheadset, Stem and riser bars.
Not sure what to do with it as it is in really nice condition.

Carl.

Splitting it will get you far more money than trying to sell it together. The CB name will sadly devalue the components sitting on it.

As for the Manitou 2 forks ... have you still got them?

Fleabayed the Manitous for parts after the elastomers failed, did alright too out of it.

Shame about the CB name being mud this is far from a cheap and nasty bike. Just a shame that it was always just a bit too big for me as I have never got full use out of it.

Break if you can be bothered, sounds a mixed bag so you'd stand to make the most money by splitting. Though a lot of folks can't be bothered, you'd still get ok money selling as a whole and less hassle.

Mixed bag as in quality or component years?

Quality wise pretty much every thing is near top of the line stuff and it just seems to be the CB name that drags it down. As the quality of the 653 Frameset (which is pretty rare) is nice.

Yeah component years, the judys are possibly too long for a 93 frame and the stem and riser if also 99,not really in keeping with the rest. Not a problem too most and without a pic its hard to say how the aesthetics work. But the more recent front end would put off some buyers namely the ones who maybe appreciate the pedigree of the bike.
