seized Judy's saga

ok guys, I have a set of Judy's that have completely seized up by the looks of it. I can remove the elastomers ok from the top, and I can remove the bolts from the botton of the legs, but I get no movement at all.

Am I doing this wrong? I've only ever replaced the elastomers and crown/steerer on thes before.

Basically there is no movement at all in the forks, hence why I am trying to dismantle them.

Put the bolts back in the bottom of the legs with a few mm of thread sticking out and give them a tap. The bottom of the skewers is on a taper that will need persuading apart.

hee hee. Seriously though, if I use a big old club hammer and try this, am I likely to write them off completely?

Also does anyone know why they would have seized in the first place? There is no give whatsoever

Just a sharp tap with an average sized hammer will do. :D

They've not seized I wouldn't think, the bolts in the bottom of the leg just pull the taper fitting tight and you'll have to ask it very nicely to come apart.

I wish I was as optomistic as you. Why do the forks not compress then? :?

Ahh!

Maybe you have a slightly bigger problem then. :? Is there no movement at all? Try spraying some penetrating oil down the seals, or up through the bolt hole in the bottom and leaving the fork upside down for a while.
Then use a big rubber or copper mallet on the top of the steerer and under side of the crown to try and get them moving.

ok, I obviously didn't explain clearly. That's right, there is no movement at all in the forks. I have penetrating oil, but was worried that it might cause damage to the internals.

I will try that then tonight, and leave them for a day or two and see what happens. Cheers for your help.

Think it was probably more me jumping to conclusions.

I have to say, I wouldn't hold out too much hope for them though. :?
