Seatpost size - Raleigh Technium

OK - does anyone know the answer to this?

Raleigh Technium Peak - 1990-ish. I tried a 26.4mm seatpost which dropped straight in but felt a bit loose.

Does anyone know if it should be a 26.6 or 26.8?

Hope someone can help

Good question. There seems to be some subtle variation in seat post sizes with Raleigh Dyna Techs and presumably Techniums too.

Some Dyna techs will happily take a 26.4mm while others, like mine, seem better with a 26.6mm squeezed into it. I've also heard of 26.0mm and 26.2mm though too.

thanks for the info Nevada. That's weird cos it's definitely not that big.

You would think that changing the casting for the seat tube lug would be expensive and difficult, so I expected seatpost size to be the same for most/all Technium MTBs.

I've bought a 26.6 -> 25.4 shim to suit a post I already have.

Weirdly, the frame had a home-made bodge shim already in there - seems like I'm not the only one confused by this bike...
