Seatpost size for a 1988 Stumpjumper

I tried a process of elimination using posts to hand (I don't have any calipers) - not 25.4 is too small, 27.0 too big. Perhaps 26.8?

Ed, I will do a bit of trial and error tomorrow for you , The original post is currently in my dads haro extreme , I have various 26.X posts which I will try.

I've just measured mine.
It measures 26.5- 26.6
Measurements were taken under the seat where it has never been in the frame. Possible 26.7 but no more. It seems to vary a bit but 0.2 is nothing.

My 89 is 26.8.

The original post seems to be 26.4 :? I have tried a 26.8 into the Haro and is way too big but a 26.4 fits perfectly, I don't have a 26.6 anymore

So it's 26.8.

Or 26.4.

Or possibly 26.6.

Seriously, thanks all, think I will need to borrow some verniers to make sure (although it's tempting to just knock a 27.0 in with a lump hammer and be done with it :twisted: ).
