Well another bike ends up in my man cave  Seen this 93 Lavadome in the optional extra colour of black on eBay a couple of days ago, looking very sorry for itself but it was only £39 bin. I had to take a chance saying the main parts were all original ie F&F'S,stem, headset and the elusive seatclamp and cable guide plus it's the first 1993 Kona i'd seen in black. Also saying i've retired my worn out 93 Lavadome which i'd had since new this would be perfect to replace it,if things weren't seized :( After getting it out of that novel packaging  and seeing the state of it,it was straight for the wd40,seatpost first no problem :? stem next no problem :? Now the bb  straight out that's the first bike i've had which hasn't put up a fight restoring it  So saying it was being nice i decided to put the full DX groupset i've had lying around on it and i'm going to use it as my daily commute and training bike. Just need some inner tubes and a chain and have a look for the original Kona 165 bars and i'm a happy chap :D

Hope you's like Spanky :D

Top job fella - looks grand. Just rescued one of these myself (1991 model)

Might be worth a PM to Raidan73 (Adrian) - he had a 165 handlebar for sale recently.

How bad is the paint on your forks? Mine are really really rough! Loads of pinpoint rust under the paintwork.

Cheers mate it's been a pleasure bringing this back life again, just looking forward to that first ride on it now.

Just having a look at your 91 Lavadome you've done a top job rescuing that, looks like a totally different bike. Ragarding the forks, mine after a good clean came up nearly new hardly a mark on them. I think that was because the bike hasn't been used much and all the moss and grime has protected the F&F'S  The only issue i've got is some rust on the bracing on the chain stays and seat stays,i'll just clean it up and repaint that area. Yours with a sand blast a repaint will be spot on,P2's are pretty bombproof. On yours does the paint look thin,i had a 91 Explosif and the paint looked really thin compared to my 92 bike. The paint might crack and chip easily leading to bubbling and rust issues, just a thought.

Re:

Nice bike.

Goes to show you can still get bargains on ebay.

That wrapping was a work of art. Perversely, it may have made the couriers take more care with it than if it had been in a box.

Wow, that has really cleaned up well, i had seen this one on the bay and thought thats going to be seized solid and possibly beyond saving, how wrong i was, well done!!
